Ed Napier
Base Operation Manager, Public Relations Advisor
Ed Napier. |
Ed began his SAR career as a trail runner in the spring of 1998. Over the next few years he served as a Communications Officer, Assistant Base Manager, General Manager (administrative), and ultimately Base Operations Manager. He is a member of NASDN, NASAR and CSAR.
In the field Ed coordinates base operations, communications and team deployment, and acts as the liaison between the team and the on-site incident commander. He is a veteran of many search operations, has attended Indiana SEMA's Search and Rescue Academy, and has been to the "Body Farm" at the University of Tennessee.
Since many handlers have more than one dog, and sometimes handlers go out with another team as a spotter, quite often there are several dogs waiting their turn or resting at the base. Bryan's responsibilities include making sure that those dogs and the ones returning from the field are cared for properly to maintain their readiness. He takes them for walks, waters them regularly, monitors their climate, and generally keeps them comfortable.
