
Ed has been associated with volunteer Search and Rescue since 1998 and then as a founding member of BSARD in May 2004. His wife Gloria is also active on the team.
Administratively he serves as a General Manager and archivist for the team. In the field he typically serves as a member of the Operations branch in any role from K9 Unit Leader up to and including Search Manager, depending on the needs of the deployment.
He’s served three terms on BSARD’s Board of Directors; a transitional one-year term in 2007, a three-year term from 2022 through 2024, and re-elected in 2025.
He is a US Army veteran, having served in the mid-1970s as a Field Artillery (Missile) Fire Direction Specialist, where he attained the rank of Specialist-5 (E5) while performing communications, mapping, and command and control protocols.
Ed’s personal certifications include NASAR SARTECH III, NIMS ICS courses (100, 200, 300, 700, and 800), and Adult, Child and Infant First Aid, CPR and AED. Other training he has completed throughout his career include GPS Navigation, Crime Scene Preservation, HazMat Awareness, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Awareness, Personal Respiratory Protection, Personal Protection against Blood-borne Pathogens, and Canine First Aid.
He also completed 40 hours of “Managing Search Operations” by CDS Outdoor School, and had a 40-hour refresher several years later.
Ed is a retired Software Engineer. For the last twenty years he was also the drummer in a bluegrass-rock fusion band.
