Darcy has been a SAR Professional since 2008 and a member of BSARD since 2013. In addition to her duties as a Senior K9 Handler, she is also active in Sonar Operations and Field Support.

Darcy and her current K9 partner Dexter are trained for Human Remains Detection on Land and Human Remains Detection in Water.

Prior certifications she held with Dexter and Danno are Human Remains Detection on Land and Human Remains Detection in Water.

Darcy’s personal SAR-related certifications include NIMS ICS courses (100200700, and 800), and Adult, Child and Infant First Aid, CPR and AED. Other training she has completed throughout her SAR career include GPS Navigation, HazMat Awareness, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Awareness, Personal Respiratory Protection, and Personal Protection against Blood-borne Pathogens. As an active Law Enforcement Officer, she is highly proficient in Crime Scene Preservation.

Her day job is Police Officer for a local township. Her favorite downtime hobbies are graphic design and photography. She has developed many of the graphic designs used by BSARD and has taken several of the photographs used in our web site.


K9 Dexter, Active since 2017

Dexter is a male Labrador Retriever multi-mix, born in late winter or early spring 2016 and came to BSARD in December 2017. He is a “rescued rescuer” who came from the same animal shelter in Alabama as former teammate Dax.

He is trained (with prior certifications) for Human Remains Detection on Land, and Human Remains Detection in Water.

K9 Danno, Active from 2013 to 2016

K9 Danno

Danno was a male German Shepherd Dog, born February 2006. He was a former Police K9 and Darcy’s Law Enforcement partner until their K9 program was eliminated. Darcy was able to keep him and he began training as a SAR K9 with BSARD in August 2013.

Danno was certified for Human Remains Detection on Land and Human Remains Detection in Water. In his 3-year career with BSARD he participated in 14 search operations.

He retired December 2016 and passed away shortly after.
