Dan had several years experience in the Civil Air Patrol before joining BSARD as a K9 Handler in January 2008. He and Murphy specialized in Mantrailing and Human Remains Detection on Land.
Professionally, he was a Police Officer in the Dayton OH area. In May 2011 he resigned from BSARD to move to a new position with an agency in the Washington D.C. area. During his time with BSARD he participated in 3 search operations.

Murphy was a male Husky multi-mix who began SAR training in October 2007 and came with Dan in January 2008.
He was trained for Mantrailing and Human Remains Detection on Land.
He moved on with Dan to his new home in May 2011. In his 3 years with BSARD he participated in 1 search operation.
