
“Ed J” was a Senior K9 Handler and a founding member of BSARD (along with his wife Donna), with about 8 years of K9 SAR experience prior to our establishment in 2004. He was also one of the three original members of the BSARD Board of Directors, serving from 2004 through 2006.
An avid fan of Norwegian Elkhounds, he trained 6 over his tenure before retiring from active K9 handling in 2021. Over his 14-year active career with BSARD, he participated in 22 search operations in either a Mantrailing or Human Remains Detection on Land capacity.
Ed remains as a dues-paying member of BSARD and is eligible to vote and participate in team functions.
Ed is retired technology specialist from a major industrial automation corporation.
K9 Bob, Active from 2009 to 2021

Bob was a male Norwegian Elkhound, born in December 2008.
He began his search training in February 2009, and specialized in Mantrailing until his retirement from active SAR work in May 2021. He participated in 5 search operations during his 12-year tenure.
His registered name, “Too Hot To Hoot,” and his call name “Bob” were both palindromes. This was by design. Ed and Donna are fans of “Riders in the Sky,” who had released “The Ballad of Palindrome.”
Bob passed away in June 2022.
K9 June, Active from 2013 to 2014

June was a female Norwegian Elkhound, born in October 2012.
She began training for Mantrailing in January 2013, and worked until June 2014.
June and April were named after two of Daisy Duck’s triplet nieces.
June passed away in January 2025.
K9 April, Active from 2012 to 2014

April was a female Norwegian Elkhound, born in June 2012.
She began training for Mantrailing in November 2012, and worked until June 2014.
June and April were named after two of Daisy Duck’s triplet nieces.
April passed away in September 2023.
K9 Daisy, Active from 2004 to 2011

Daisy was a female Norwegian Elkhound, born in 2001. She was a founding K9, coming over with Ed from his previous team when BSARD formed in 2004.
She was trained for Mantrailing and Human Remains Detection on Land and worked until July 2011. During her 7-year BSARD tenure she participated in 15 search operations.
Daisy passed away in November 2011.
K9 Zöe, Active from 2004 to 2010

Zöe was a female Norwegian Elkhound, born in 1996. She was a founding K9, coming over with Ed from his previous team when BSARD formed in 2004.
She was trained for Mantrailing and Human Remains Detection on Land and worked until January 2010. In almost 6 years with BSARD she participated in 6 search operations.
Zöe passed away in October 2011.
K9 Gracie, Active from 2004 to 2006

Gracie was a female Norwegian Elkhound, born in 1993. She was a founding K9, coming over with Ed from his previous team when BSARD formed in 2004.
She was trained for Mantrailing and Human Remains Detection on Land and worked until April 2006.
Her call name “Gracie” was the short form of her registered name “Alpha’s Say Good Night, Gracie,” which was the closing line from “The Burns and Allen Show” of the 1950’s.
Grace passed away in December 2006.
