Ed was the first non-founding member to join BSARD. A Senior K9 Handler already, he and Sammi had actually participated in a couple of searches with us before joining the team in November 2005.
He was a retired Fire Chief, and brought a wealth of knowledge with him. A (to us) comical side note was, due to his bearing, media reporters almost universally gravitated to him for interviews, which he politely declined (in keeping with our policy).
Ed certified with his dogs for Mantrailing, Human Remains Detection on Land, and Human Remains Detection in Water.
Our team responds over a wide area. Ed retired from K9 SAR in April of 2017 to stay closer to home. During his 11-year tenure with BSARD he had participated in 76 search operations.
K9 Maggie, Active from 2010 to 2017
Maggie was a female German Shepherd Dog who began training in January 2010 and certified for Mantrailing, Human Remains Detection on Land, and Human Remains Detection in Water.
She retired from K9 SAR with Ed when he left in April 2017. During her 7 year career with BSARD she participated in 38 search operations.
K9 Scout, Active from 2006 to 2015
Scout was a male German Shepherd Dog who began training in May 2006 and certified for Mantrailing, Human Remains Detection on Land, and Human Remains Detection in Water.
He retired from K9 SAR in September 2015 after 9 years and participating in 52 search operations.
K9 Sammi, Active from 2005 to 2009
Sammi was a female German Shepherd Dog who came to BSARD with Ed when he joined in November 2005. She certified for Mantrailing, Human Remains Detection on Land, and Human Remains Detection in Water.
She passed away in June 2009. During her 3-1/2 years with BSARD she participated in 21 search operations.
