Glossary of Abbreviations and Terms
Like any profession, Search and Rescue is one of those fields that is rife with buzzwords, abbreviations, acronyms and arcane terminology. This page has many that we’ve used, heard, or just know about, along with brief descriptions or definitions of each. There’s also a list of “pronounceable” acronyms that are frequently thrown around as if everybody already knows what they mean.

There are thousands of books, articles, web pages, videos and more about the aspects of K9 Search and Rescue. Navigating the glut is a challenge for even an experienced handler; much more so for someone just looking into the field and trying to get a feel for it. This page contains a list of those resources that we’ve found to be the most useful or enlightening in our experience. Losing a pet is heart-rending. This poignant composition, its author long believed to be unknown, is included here to maybe provide some solace to those grieving a lost partner by providing a vision of an afterlife for pets and a future reunion.
