Ted already had a couple of years experience as a K9 Handler with another K9 SAR team when he came to BSARD in March 2007. He and his dogs specialized in Mantrailing, Human Remains Detection on Land, and Human Remains Detection in Water.

He served two consecutive terms on our Board of Directors from 2009 through 2011, and 2012 through 2014.

Ted stopped working his dogs in April 2011 to begin traveling and enjoying time with his family, but he remained involved with the team whenever he was in town and finished his term on the Board (remotely when necessary) before retiring in February 2014. During his time with us he participated in 21 search operations.


K9 Max, Active from 2009 to 2012

“Miracle Max” was a male Labradoodle. He was nearly frozen to death when the Carters found him just after he was born. Ted carefully warmed him and the little guy survived!

Max started training for Mantrailing and Human Remains Detection on Land in January 2009, and retired with Ted in April 2011.

K9 Chloe, Active from 2007 to 2011

Chloe was a female Labrador Retriever and Ginger’s pup. She came to BSARD with Ted in March 2007.

She specialized in Mantrailing, Human Remains Detection on Land, and Human Remains Detection in Water until retiring from active duty in April 2011. During her 4 years with BSARD she participated in 13 search operations.

Ginger was a female Labrador Retriever and Chloe’s mother. She also came to BSARD with Ted in March 2007.

She specialized in Mantrailing, Human Remains Detection on Land, and Human Remains Detection in Water until retiring from active duty in April 2011. During her 4 year tenure with BSARD she participated in 14 search operations.
